Why sailing to Gather?
Sailing in crew is often used as a metaphor when talking about team dynamics.
Contradictory with common beliefs, a good and modern sailing team is not a team where the captain is imposing his view and dispatching his/her commands to the "executing" crew.
In cruise or during a race, crew efficiency comes from preparation, clear role distribution, active listening, observation, anticipation, and alignment during practices.
It is a complex dynamic, it requires dialogues, concentration, trust and collective commitment.
It is NOT (1) preparation and (2) smart execution but repeated quest for improvement, trial and errors on which to build competence.
"Sailing to Gather" is:
- the shared little stress before leaving the harbor or during the start procedure
- the shared concentration to manage the well repeated manoeuvers or... unexpected events
- the shared celebration joy when crossing the line whatever the result
- the shared enthusiasm after the race when discussing all that can be improved for the next round
